When I was younger I tried to finish every book I started. If only I knew what happened next (pun intended). I ate some bad chicken today. Oh, this is a book review alright, in the same way that this is a book. Perhaps I need more disjoint sentences or over the top characterizations. Very well, this book is Satan. The embodiment of all evil. This review is the arch-angel Gabriel. Naturally I am not being sloppy and obtuse, this is a heart-breaking review describing how I came to terms with this traumatic book.. NOT. These are ridiculous, like the Mule and the Murderer.

The story is utterly, completely pointless. The characters are drab and boring. The writing is not beautiful. It is annoying. Cliffhangers and over-exposition is not a hallmark of good writing. Read The Book Thief instead, at least the story was good.

For really beautiful writing try anything by Ursula LeGuin or China Mieville.

imma need to come back to this one, it's too melancholy for right now

this book took me 200 pages to get into. it was beautiful. even after 200 pages I felt super confused at times. the chapters are about different things so it was at times hard to follow.

however, the writing was still beautiful. this book does such a good job at navigating grief and how it can affect families on such a deep level. I definitely cried. although I didn't love it like the book thief, it was still a masterpiece.

DNF. I just can't finish this. The writing is very weird and all over the place and I can't stay interested.

I knew going in that I'd have high expectations because of the book thief. But I just couldn't get into this book. I kept hoping it would pick up, and it did at one point, but not enough to really fully grasp my interest.
