I love this book! I loved every character from the moment each was introduced. Although I also had some trouble at the beginning of the book, I couldn't put it down once I got about 50 pages in. Usually I give it 100, so this wasn't bad. I get all of the symbolism and Homer references. But sometimes you just have to read a book and enjoy it. Please stop over analyzing every detail of what you think the author meant by his or that and just read it, feel it.

The first 100 pages were very slow, I almost have up. So glad I persisted, the writing was beautiful. Nothing like the Book Thief (which I loved), but worth a visit.

This book was hard to follow at times but is worth the read.

It's a really good book with so many small details and stories and emotions. Well written and interesting and completely unique. I will say it's difficult to follow at times and doesn't always make sense but I think it was worth it to keep reading.

I was slow to get started with this book, but once I committed to picking it up every day I really enjoyed it. I did find it hard to follow in parts, with a choppy writing style and missing information. Readers need to fill in the blanks but personally I found it difficult to know if I'd filled it in with the right information.

I enjoyed how it was told from Matthew's perspective. I enjoyed how chapters alternated between 'before the beginning' and after and I thought it was really clever how as the book goes on, you see why a particular point in time was labelled as 'the beginning'. I thought each branch of the story was tied up really nicely at the end and I even found myself tearing up, a sure sign I'd become invested in the characters.

This book was amazing. It was hard to get into at first, but I found I couldn’t put it down. I loved the way it was written, the language was amazing and the style of writing really unique. The imagery, storyline’s and character were intriguing, unique and superb

I've put off reading this book for the last few years. Concerned that it was going to be a heavy long-winded read. It was the first off the ranks for my book-club this year, and even still, I was hesitant. I I felt like I wasn't going to have the headspace or time for it.
I am SO very glad I took the leap and 'gave it a go'.
Past and present brilliantly weaved into a story of life, death, coming of age, sibling togetherness, young love, parental bonding and so much more. I attempted The Book Thief many years ago, and just couldn't get into it. After reading this, I'm definitely going to give it another go, along with the authors other books.
This book will have you smiling, crying and yawning all in the same sentence!
LOVED IT!
