This takes place in Nevada. The amazing Cox usually gets U.S. locales right even though she’s Australian. But at one point in this novel, a character gave directions to a house on Cloudrock Court in Macdonald Ranch, and my head exploded.

No where near her best. Tailored to an American audience. Lots of action but nowhere near the tension or character development of her previous. Don’t have the Australian humour. Needs an Amanda character.

4.75 (not in a literary scholastic sense but in an adventure trash novel sense)
Is it realistic? No. Is it fast and fun? Hell yeah!

Every one in this book is terrible at their job. Every single person! Kinda like the fugitive but not really it follows a prison break of over 600 inmates and one man trying to prove his innocence. It was well paced but I think it would have worked better if there were just a few inmates that escaped or if it focused more on the MMC. I was also very annoyed at all the HR violations and lack of training for just about every character

Thanks to NetGalley and to MacMillan Audio for the review copy.

This is an excellent read/listen. If you enjoy thrillers, mysteries or police procedurals- this is a great twist on the genres. From the prisoners to the wardens one does not know what to expect. The characters are multifaceted and we see all different sides of humanity.

Recommended.

Con Air meets The Fugitive meets Mean Girls.
