This was a hard read. The first few chapters were promising and then it continued to add more POV’s. Adding more and more weird subplots. What the hell is up with the “romance” in this?? That is what truly made me give up on this book.

Just like an action movie. A fun read.
Candice Fox truly can do no wrong in my mind.
Another gripping read by this author which has you hooked from the beginning. Candice has a wonderful way of weaving multiple narratives together without it feeling confusing or clunky to read. I loved the interconnectedness of each of the big killer’s narratives, whilst also slowing unravelling the two main character’s pasts.
Despite the multiple storylines and strong characters, everything was wrapped up so neatly and no stone was left unturned. I surprisingly loved the ending for one character in particular, Axe, which was left a little open to the imagination.

I discovered Candice Fox when I picked up Crimson Lake. I’m all caught up on that series so I was excited to see a new book by Fox. Unfortunately this one just didn’t work for me. I never connected with Celine and did not find her adversarial relationship with Kraddle credible. The big reveal of the real killer was odd and underwhelming and the ending was both tidy and open ended-it’s clearly the first in a new series. I did not care for the narration at all. Over exaggerated Southern accents were distracting and unnecessary. Disappointing, but not a dealbreaker with the author.

There were parts I really enjoyed--the premise, the individual story arcs.
There were parts I didn't--Keeps and Celine, Kradle and Celine. The problem with such plots is that there is rarely a plausible reason for the hard-boiled law enforcement person to help the criminal. It doesn't make sense that a prison guard who barely avoided her own death as a teen & who is now committed to keeping family killers in prison would suddenly help a family killer based on one phone call.

This book is entertaining enough and moves along to keep you interested, but lots of the characters and events are just too implausible. If you’re just looking for a book to while away a few hours on a plane it would keep you entertained, but don’t expect a literary masterpiece.
