One of the top books for me this year! Be sure to read the author's note too.

A powerful read about a little-known time that becomes especially poignant when looking at Ukraine and Russia right now. I also think the misinformation part is interesting in 2024. I agree with another review I saw that it was a little slow to start--whiny kid heads are sometimes hard to start in. It gets way better though.

I picked up this ya book for my classroom but enjoyed it myself. The book is set in both modern day US during the beginning of covid and Ukraine pre WW2. The use of multiple pov kept the story flowing. I enjoyed learning the mostly unknown history of the starving of Ukrainians by the communist party. This book will take a special place in my classroom library.
