I’m not sure how much this story adds to the overall series but it was a satisfying, quick read.

I found this to be just okay. Compared to the three books in the original series and the other prequel, I think this is definitely the worst. It didn’t illuminate anything about the world that we didn’t already know. And it was hard to be invested in the story because it didn’t give us anything new and we already knew how the main plot would end up. We already know Haymitch wins and we can assume Snow will punish him for it because of who we know Snow to be. I also felt that the pacing was strange. I know it’s a Hunger Games book, but everyone died so quickly. The epilogue was the most exciting part to read and that was about two pages.

Emotionally scarring 🥲
I don’t know who I am now that this book is over.
This is a book I too have been wanting since I finished the original trilogy back in 2010, and now, 15 years later, I am a husk.
Suzanne Collins grabbed the mic because she had something to SAY, Haymitch Abernathy’s story is ruthless and sadistic and relentless because that’s what facism is and that’s what it does, and it will try and succeed in convincing you it’s doing something else. Don’t believe it.
Paint your own posters.
It’s a call to action if I’ve ever heard one.
