I understand I put myself through reading this series while not enjoying it, and that's my own fault, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't hold writers accountable for standards, especially for a series so (in)famous. I am not a hater. I truly hoped that the series would improve in quality as time went on, and I believe in the third book there was mild improvement, but not enough. I do not have much constructive criticism for E L James because there is nothing to be done that could make me like this series so this review is short, however, I would like to implore the casual reader to invest their time in something better. We support content production with where we put our time and money, so don't invest in something so problematic and poorly executed. There are books better out there, put in the effort to find them and support a smaller author.
The last instance of the Fifty Shades trilogy. I must say, terrific ending. Nothing is left unsaid, all the loose ends come together beautifully and you get a proper conclusion for all the issues that have been hanging around and making Ana and Christians life miserable. Amazing read, completely enthralling. Give it a chance, even if BSDM is not your thing. Although there is some in the novels, it is certainly not about that, it is about the discoveries of a couple, the broken heart of someone that has been deeply hurt and how love, through hardship and effort, and always compromise, can mend a soul and soar true.
A truly worthy and erotic finish for an invigorating and exotic trilogy. A must read for all who had read the previous two books. E L James does not disappoint in the finale, with much awaited revelations and much cherished moments.
My favorite book was definitely the 2nd one. I thought this one dragged from the start. It took far too many pages for her to reminisce about the wedding and the honeymoon and if the author wanted to tell that story, then just tell it, no need to flashback. I also thought it was a little wierd that they ended up pregnant. That just isn't how I read those two characters. Not to say they wouldn't have children down the road, but not to soon. I mean really, Ana is so pathetic, get a grip and grow up. All in all I was underwhelmed by this final installment. I keep find with trilogies that the 1st book is usually pretty good good as it's laying all of the ground work. The 2nd book is great because you really get to the heart of the story and the third book just loses steam, as though the author has run out of compelling things to say and is just stretching out the inevitable.
Quite possibly one of the least necessary books ever written. Really doesn't add anything to the foundation of the story but is worth reading if you're bored and, like me, have to finish everything.
It was a different type of book more mystery than romance and character study
I absolutely love this series. One of the best I've read. And definitely the best romance I've ever read, and ever will read. Completely amazing.
The only thing I enjoyed was the ending. The author's repetition has gotten better in this book as well, and I never thought I'd have enough of the *ahem* "love" scenes, but by the end of the book I was skimming over these entire sections.
I enjoyed the changes that occurred throughout the book between Christian & Anastasia as their relationship grew & how redemptive their love for each other was to Christian. Although the ending left me wanting to read more from Christians perspective.
