ladies and theydies, at last i have completed my re-read of the HoO series. thank you all for accompanying me on this month-long journey.

i enjoyed this book, but i did have some qualms with it as a whole. firstly, i wish we'd gotten chapters written from percy and annabeth's POVs. i love those two nerds more than life itself; not to mention, their POVs are definitely the most engaging and the most fun to read. this book would have been better had we gotten to experience the events through the eyes of two of the most important and lovable characters.

which leads me to my next point: there were sections of the novel that REALLY dragged. it took me about a week and a half to get through this book, primarily because i simply wasn't as engaged in its plot. it wasn't as compelling as some of the other instalments (looking at you, MoA and HoH). we can definitely blame that on the lack of percy + annabeth chapters, but i also think that generally speaking, the crew's journey to athens just didn't really interest me much.

now, onto the good stuff. i really enjoyed the chapters written from reyna and nico's POVs. their quest to return the athena parthenos is what kept me reading, and it's a big reason why i managed to trudge through the middle of this book. introducing orion as a villain was also a genius move.

the climax of this book was a treat! i will never be over percy kissing annabeth to end the centuries-long athena/poseidon feud: "the rivalry ends here. i love you wise girl." DO Y'ALL HEAR ME FUCKING SCREAMING!!!!!!!!!!!!

another few key details that were incredibly entertaining: percy waking gaea with a goddamn NOSEBLEED. seriously, that has to be the funniest thing that has ever happened to him. also, octavian accidentally catapulting himself into the sky? yeah, talk about SATISFYING

I liked this book a lot, but it was hard for me to let the characters go. I didn't like the ending much either. I'm sure Riordan had good intentions in mind, but the way it all came together felt awkward and weird.
