Wanted to give 3 stars because the writing style annoyed me (“if only I knew how wrong I was” showing up ~8 times before we find out how wrong he was) but adjusted because it was written in 1895 lol
Very innovative thought for that time period (published time period). This is the inception of time travel adventure genre, I expected more from this like tight/racy screenplay but writer focused more on philosophical and civilization aspects than story and pacing and it done some bad to the reading experience but it was acceptable as this book was not written considering this gen readers. On the flipside for a novella this took so much time for completion. Go for it to experience the inception of a genre and a legacy......
Very short and absolutely excellent. The Time Machine is a brilliant and entertaining investigation into where human kind's current path might unwittingly lead.

Graphic: Cannibalism
Minor: Violence

I’m kind of bummed that I didn’t love this. Some parts were interesting but overall I found I was pretty bored. The short audiobook ended up feeling really long because I was bored. It’s not a terrible book though, just not for me.

Have not tried H G Wells books before and so pleasantly surprised with the ease and fluidity of the writing despite being written 1800s. Challenging vocabulary and form but gripping and vivid.
Confronts your views on the human race, our future, leaving a bleak outlook. Makes you think about what it means to be human, and how we treat each other, the class system, our social structures etc and how it all boils down to survival.
Potentially cut a little short, if you think back not a lot actually happens, but that makes the book more impressive for how intriguing it is for a short story!
Much better than the film!
On to War of the Worlds next which is one of my favourite stories!

Not a terribly huge fan. I think I just struggle with the writing style of anything written pre-WWI. Too much description, not enough happening.
One of my fave science fiction books so far. Very odd and engaging.
