I actually enjoyed this one even more than the first, much creepier imo. plus I loved reading from Coco’s POV, she’s my favorite of the main 3.

Another fun read! Still very much enjoyed the overall atmosphere and, this time around, the winter-y setting and Coco's perspective/character development.

It's good to know that my threshold for horror is middle grade fiction.
Dead Voices was a lovely addition to the series. Arden once again balances a creepy supernatural storyline with a soft and tender subplot about the pains of preadolescent relationships.
One thing that was missing for me in this story was the lack of backstory for the supernatural characters. In Small Spaces, I loved reading about the lives of the previous Smoke Hollow inhabitants. However, the ghosts of Mount Hemlock don't get the same treatment. They are (for the most part) sinister, but you never learn the motivation behind their cruel actions.
A final note: don't expect all of the storylines to be wrapped up by the end of the book. It's clear that Arden is setting up a couple of larger arcs. I can't wait for the upcoming books to see what happens next to our trio of friends.

Following the same cast as book one, this sequel is somehow even creepier than sentient scarecrows.
To preface, I hate the dark. More specifically, I am scared of what I could find in the dark. Building off of that, I am scared of seeing eyes and a smile in the dark. This was a bad book to read.
Ollie, Coco, and Brian are headed to a ski lodge for a quick and cold vacation, but when a snowstorm and a power outage cause them to stay inside, Ollie and Coco realize pretty quickly what is going on. Visited by nightmares and shadows on the upper floor of the lodge, the girls soon realize this place is a haunted orphanage. Stay away from the mirrors and whatever you do don't go near the closets.
This book really highlights Coco! I loved Coco from book one and this book really shows her genius mind. Ollie is still a main character here, but this book showed Coco's abilities so much more. This book didn't focus on Brian much, but I'm sure he'll get screentime in the sequels.
Anyways, I loved this! Middle-grade isn't my normal agerange to read about, but if it's revisiting old favorite or horror, I'm in.
