I'm a little surprised I finished this book, and to be honest. I liked the first chapter a lot, and liked Georgie as well, so I think that's why I stuck around. While I get why some people weren't Georgie fans (and I don't think I'd go as far as to call myself a fan), I liked her career path and I enjoyed reading the story in her voice when the narration was from her POV. I also liked Bethany and Rosie and their relationship, although I think Bethany would have made a better friend than sister, and I don't know how Rosie got roped into their group but here she is.
And that was basically it, I guess, for things I liked. The rest of it ranged from stuff that I didn't like but could live with, to downright no thank you.
Mostly, just--Travis is probably the least likable male protag I've read since I started reading romance. Everything about him was either creepy or condescending or misogynistic, and I found his character wildly inconsistent for the sake of the story. If I never have to read "baby girl" again, it'll be too soon. Having read Evvie Drake Starts Over, it was jarring to read about a retired-before-his-time professional ball player and have it be Travis. There was nothing about him that was attractive, no matter how much the author talked him up physically.
The sex scenes were wild, mostly because they were excessively raunchy without feeling in tune with the characters or their relationship. Maybe I'm just an extremely boring person, but the way that Georgie and Travis have sex for the first time seemed outlandish in context. It made it decidedly less steamy as a reader because I was just gawking at the page, wondering why this was happening.
If you enjoyed this book, then I think you should feel okay about that! We read to enjoy ourselves, and just because something didn't work for me doesn't mean it's bad for everyone. But if you're looking for your next read, and you're wondering if the rating on this one is artificially low, you might want to look elsewhere.
