Though this book was fun at times and overall really easy to read and breeze through, I had to give it 2 stars because of all the cringe. All the cringe. First off: our FMC is a clown. You read that right, a clown. As in a professional, this is her job, she gets paid for this, clown. As in the curly red wig, the make up, the red nose. No. Just no.
Then there was the Just Us League, which I believe, serves as a vehicle for the small town vibe. It just didn’t work. Primarily because all the members of the League remain nameless and faceless. Therefore, you feel no connection to this league whatsoever, even though it serves a mainly comedic purpose to this book. Thus, it lacks said comedy and overall just doesn’t work.
Adding insult to injury, I know Tessa Bailey is said to be the “Michelangelo of dirty talk” but quite honestly, the dirty talk in this book was also cringe. I literally read some of these scenes with my face like this:

1.5 Stars
I had hopes for this one, but sadly it turned out to be just like every other perky little sister + bad boy brother's best friend combo I've read before. Brownie points for the female empowering and Georgie's character development, but that's it. Just not for me.

I’ve been misled! Thought I was getting into a cutesy book with a home-improvement schtick, but instead I got “She’s All That” with a brother’s best friend slant and a partially rebuilt fireplace. I usually loveee the brother’s best friend trope, but this ain’t it, folks.
Instead, it’s about a newly retired, grumpy baseball player who doesn’t notice his best friend’s little sister (the town clown, can’t make this up) until she gets a makeover at the local boutique. Then he takes her virginity (she’s 23) and a very non-realistic way. Then BOOM they’re in love but won’t admit it? Idk!! Then although he’s terrified of commitment, he proposes on national television on his first day of work?? After a few weeks of fake dating??? Again, idk!!
The only redeeming aspect of this book was the spice, which, like I said before, was a lil weird but

The home renovation that seems like a headliner for this book was a footnote at best. Some good “women supporting women” moments, but otherwise not really for me. I didn’t like the lopsided power dynamics, the demeaning pet name, and some of the romance was a bit much. If you like that sort of thing, it was a relaxing beach read, and characters were relatively 3-dimensional.
Also, I was super worried about her getting pregnant for the whole second half of the book, because I’m pretty sure he didn’t use a condom in the dugout scene. An oversight? Or did a preggers/“trap him” plot point get cut?

I was immediately hooked - I am a sucker for a good romance after all. There were many aspects that I appreciated but also a few that made me cringe a little -- in particular the term "baby girl". All in all, I enjoyed it, it was a nice reprieve and I'll probably continue the series.
