The first time I read this I was so caught up in the story.
On my second read, a few years later, I have thoughts.
Emmie. I didn’t get a good visual of what she looks like. Is she short and curvy, slender and stacked or a mix of both? I was confused by her quitting her job but still trying to impress her boss. I wish she had stood up for herself more.
Slater is simply delicious. He’s a little tormented by his past and doesn’t make moves until he’s sure he wants to.
Their chemistry is off the charts.

I'm a sucker for this angsty will-they-wont-they stuff. I probably shouldn't have liked this as much as I did, but the writing style kept me hooked and I stayed up until 5am to finish it because I couldn't put it down.
Emmie kinda got on my nerves with how she refused to open her eyes to the job path right in front of her and her boss pissed me off for keeping her dangling for so long.
I'm rating this on pure entertainment value though, so yay 5 stars.

I loved this so much! It was fantastic! A wonderful story with these great characters filled with so much passion. It was just an exciting read!

Emmie and Slater were excellent characters. Emmie Valencia, this girl. Wanting so much but having so many insecurities, trying to be strong and push through them. She's so sweet and smart, just a normal girl. I totally got her and understood her. Sometimes I wanted to shake her and say "you got this" but I could totally relate to why she held back at times. Slater Vaughn, this man. Oh goodness, he was fantastic. Talented, sexy, protective, and sweet. There were moments where Slater really showed how vulnerable he was and it made my heart melt. I loved the fact that this is from both of their POV’s, that’s one of my favorite things.

I love how Emmie and Slater were friends first and their relationship really grew and evolved from there. I could feel the build between them, it was so great to get all those different levels of emotion from them while they were fighting their feelings. It was a steady build that really grew and developed and it was timed perfectly. I kept getting tingly feelings in my body and my stomach flipped while reading because I could feel their connection. Together they had this undeniable passion that built and built and then bam! combustible! I loved their hotness together, just the perfect amount.

I was excited learning all the details and how things developed, I was hooked from the beginning! Besides Emmie and Slater, there was also the story about the band. I really liked all the guys and getting to know them. I loved the connection that Emmie had with her brother Derek and I’m excited that the next story is about him. I was into everything that was happening with the band and and the conflicts involved. Besides the passion, there was a lot of anxiety and tension. I got stressed out on more than one occasion. Not a fan of Piper Lee but she was a definitely a well written bad guy.

This was just a full wonderful story that was full of passion, had really good development, and awesome characters. Loved it!

It was good but not great. Honestly the ending was a real let down and the whole plot was the miscommunication trope

Summary

Emmie Valencia has worked in the music industry for quite some time, and she knows her stuff, she is talented and quick at making decisions. But she wants more than to just be an assistant, she wants to build a career and so she takes a temporary leave of absence from her job, and decides to help her brother and his band out. So she moves to Austin, Texas to take that leap for her future. Slater is the lead singer for the band, he is gorgeous and has an incredible voice and the ladies love him, but their group needs something or someone to get them to the 'big leagues'. They want more than to just sing in clubs, they know they have real talent and will do anything to get the world to see that. When Emmie comes home and helps the band out with what they need to get a boost, tensions flare between the two. Emmie refuses to get together with a rock star, but Slater is different, there is more to him than meets the eye, and she senses that he is IT for her, but Emmie will have to take that leap of faith and trust that Slater's love for her is rock solid and enough to last.

The Hero

Slater Vaughn, has always struggled with trying to prove himself. His father tried and tried for years to be a big singer but was never able to make it. His father is dead now, but Slater still struggles with who is he and what he wants to become. Slater has never had a steady relationship in all of his life, it's always been enjoying the sex and the alcohol and the high of singing. He loves the attention but he also loves his boys, and will do anything for his band. He will sacrifice anything...until he meets Emmie and knows that she is the girl for him, but he realizes that he will have to prove himself. Slater is one sexy hero, and at first I wasn't sure if I would like him...but boy did I ever fall for this sexy rock star. He is everything you need in a hero and more. Slater is sexy as sin, but also has never had love or given a relationship a shot, but boy when he goes for it he really goes all in. You see his growth in this story and trying to balance his life of being a rock star and his love for Emmie.

The Heroine

Emmie has had bad luck with rock stars. She once dated a rock star, and he cheated on her, she has seen the life of living the rock star dream can do, it destroys relationships, and she refuses to do that to herself again. After working eight years for a big time music promoter, who refuses to give her a promotion that is well deserved, she takes a break and goes back home to Texas and help her brothers band become big, because she knows they have real talent and can become the next big hit. Emmie has a difficult time with trust, she has only ever had her brother to lean on, but when she falls hard for Slater, she realizes that their road is not going to be easy. Emmie will have to learn to trust herself and her love for Slater and take that chance that it will be enough to last any storm. I adored Emmie, she was so real in this story, and I felt for her, because you see the pain she suffered from her last relationship, so it makes sense that she would struggle with dating another rock star. But we soon realize that Emmie is made of tough grit, and even though there were a few instances I wanted to shake her from her stupor I also understood the reason behind it all, and she really proves herself in this book. We see her strength and courage to do what it takes to hold onto the love she has for Slater.

Plot and Storyline

You Really Got Me is a phenomenal rock star romance that won me over from the beginning. I had the hardest time putting this one down. Oh boy did I ever!! WHEW!! And the emotions this book brought out, was something I wasn't really expecting in this book. Most rock star romances I have read have never been so emotional as this one was for me. I would even move it into the "forbidden romance" trope, just for the reason of the circumstances of these two and how they try to make a relationship work, and well Slater are Emmie are forbidden by Emmie's brother to have any kind of romantic relationship, but you know how that all goes right? But I did love Derek, he knows Slater and his past and doesn't want to risk his sister getting hurt, he is just being a protective brother. We get to meet the other members of the band, and boy were they fun even if they got a bit crazy at times. But I surely did love them and what they brought together as a team and a group of brothers who loved music. What was so heartrending was every aspect of the story. But the focus is Slater and Emmie. Both characters just worm their way into your heart, and you want them together so badly, it hurts. The way Erika Kelly weaves this story is just beautiful, because she makes it real and human and as a reader you just connect on every level with the story. That is what I loved most is the way its written, and how it made me fall in love with the characters and this love story that tore out my heart at times. I mean honestly these two had it bad for each other, and they really have to battle with themselves, each other, and some villains who try to break them apart to get their HEA. But it does happen and the ending was just so perfectly played out! This is a must read for anyone that loves a winning love story.

The Cover

This is one of my favorite rock star romance covers. I mean you don't even see any gorgeous male parts right? But I love the pose here, with the guitar, the relaxed posture and I love the way the cover just fits with the story.

Overall View

You Really Got Me is a powerful love story that speaks to the heart and soul of every reader. Its magical, emotionally provoking, with sensual energy, and characters that will enthrall you. Erick Kelly has hit gold here, and is an author to watch out for! A MUST READ!

Quotes To Savor

“She’s not a girlfriend. She’s my fucking heart.”

I believe in working hard for the things I want, and I want you more than anything I've ever wanted in my life. So I'm not going to set you free in the hope fate means for us to last. We're going to last because we take hold of each other and hang onto it with all we've got. When I die, the only thing I know I get to keep is my love for you.

This was too much like the Backstage Pass books, so I skipped over reading it. I need something different. I may return to this book in the future.
