I am morally against that ending.

I guess I’ll probably come back at some point and write actual reviews for all the books in this series, but I’m just emotionally unable right now.

I don’t get it... I love this world—the magic system, the boys and Blue, the women at 300 Fox Way, even the Gray Man. Even the villains were fun in this book!

But somehow, none of the books in this series feel like a 5-star read, even though they should be.
I can’t put them down, but at the same time, I don’t want the story to end.

The pacing “issues” from the previous two books still linger, though it wasn’t as bad this time.
What really carried this installment for me was the amazing character development, especially from Adam (my baby) and Blue. So the last-minute chaos was just fun to watch.

Adam’s arc hit hard. I loved that he finally realized that the whole “being unknowable” rhetoric he kept repeating throughout the series was really just him not knowing himself.
His sense of self had been completely eroded by his abusive, unstable household. He’d put the Aglionby boys on a pedestal in the worst way, convinced they looked down on him and enjoyed making him feel like a charity case. (Poor Gansey agonized over this in the last book—an observation I loved from him at the time.)
It took Adam a long time to realize they just genuinely care for him. They love him and want the best for him. I guess when you grow up in a household like his, it’s hard to recognize what real care even looks like.

As for the villains? Phenomenal. So fun. (Damn you, Kavinsky—you were such a thorn in my side.) Greenmantle and Piper are total psychos, but in the most entertaining way. Their cold, sharp, and sarcastic banter actually made me chuckle out loud more than once.

That said, considering how much Greenmantle was hyped—especially by the Gray Man—and the fact that he survived two (?) headshots at the end of the second book (which already was a very underwhelming "end" to his character), he really didn’t do much here either.
He runs away at the first sign of trouble. I kind of wish we’d gotten more from his rivalry with the Gray Man and with the boys, both of which felt underdeveloped

To be fair, I guess the real antagonist in this book was the cave itself. Greenmantle and Piper were just there for shits and giggles (literally in my case).

As per usual, I loved learning more about the world, the cave, and the lore of the sleepers.
In terms of magic, I still think book two is my favorite—getting to explore Ronan’s abilities, his family, and his history was Incredible. (He’s my primary baby, actually. Sorry, Adam. Love you.) But this one was still a lot of fun.

P.S.
God, I really hope the series finale doesn’t break my heart. Gansey better survive. I don’t think I can handle anything happening to these boys or Blue.
It would be real fuckin' funny if I came back here later crying…

I'm so glad that the 4th book will be out soon. These books continue to be great. This book at times gave me the creeps, the feels, and had me laughing out loud. If you don't cry during the courtroom scene, you might not have emotions. There was also a great scene with Ronan and Blue, which made me realize they've never really interacted by themselves before. I can't wait to find out what happens next, and if things don't turn out great for Adam, I will be v.v. upset.
