Received as an ARC from Netgalley:

Murderbot meets Van Helsing, in this entertaining monster rally novel with a fun sci-fi twist. Loved the characters in this book and the plot was excellent.

Solid all around.

Sidenote I've heard some folks not loving the audio for this one, and whilst yes the literal binary that is read out occasionally can be a bit tiring, the performances ARE EXCELLENT, just speed through those parts as the audio is well worth it.

Perfect found family. Agnus and Mina were my favorites, I LOVED THEM. Demeter and Steward had a great dynamic too. I didn't like Steve. Frank was great as well. ALSO, such a unique plot, this was a great fantasy scifi blend and is definitely worth the read.

Demeter is a self-aware space cruiser who develops the reputation of being a ghost ship after pulling into port with her passengers mysteriously dead or missing once...okay twice...maybe three times. Turns out that for whatever reason Demeter has become a magnet for strange phenomena, in an old-school horror monster kind of way. She and her frenemy, ship's AI doctor Steward, must put aside their differences and join forces with their found family to defeat the scourge of Demeter's first failed mission: Dracula himself.

This sci-fi comedy monster mash hybrid was a lot of fun. The tone and pacing are occasionally a little uneven, and the reimaginging of classic monster stories doesn't always make total sense. But just go with it anyway. Imaginative, often amusing, and really made me want a pet spider drone. A good read.

Fun at times, didn’t really understand the through line. Maybe audiobook wasn’t the best format to read.

You probably know about the Demeter in Dracula, now make it into the AI of a spaceship that won’t let the immortal bloodthirsty count get away with killing her humans.

The concept of this book was very interesting and a lot of fun. I never thought I would put Dracula and spaceship in the same sentence but here I am. And it was not the only surprises this book had in stock, and I loved that about it. I highly recommend going blind into this one, because not knowing what to expect next makes the experience a lot better.

The plot was a little all over the place, each part getting more bizarre than the last, but in a really good way. The writing style was unique and everything I could expect from an AI system better at calculating data than having human interactions. It was funny and very engaging.

This was not a scary sort of horror, but I had a great time reading this weird sci-fi AI monsters mash adventure.
