Stupendo

I inadvertently picked the perfect time of year to reread this little classic. It's about spring, and life, and the renewal of life after the winter--both the winter of our personal lives, and the season of cold and dead things.

The one reason I gave this book three rather than four stars is that--through no fault of its own, because it was the style at the time--it tends to border a little heavily on the melodramatic side, with the children characters exclaiming the same exultant realizations about the Spring over and over again. "I shall live forever. And ever and ever!" "It's Magic that makes things grow!"

Despite this, the book was still absolutely charming and lovely, and perfect to read in this season of growing green things.
