Anne Rice bravely diverges from the established and beloved cast of the previous Vampire Chronicles in order to write a story about her takes on Christianity which I truly couldn't bring myself to care about. I think I would've enjoyed it if it was about half the length, but I found my eyes rolling across the pages barely taking anything in and not caring enough to go back and read it properly. The parts with Dora were alright.

Don't remember too much about this book. Read it when first published, that was a long time ago. Need to re-read it.

I don't have much to say about this one. I was definitely not into it, but it's mostly due to me being extremely disinterested in anything related to religion and this was an odd love letter to it.
As usual the ending was once more the best part. I'm glad I managed to finish it.
Once again the supporting vampires bring some humanity to the story and Lestat maybe grows somewhat, I'll never know.
I'm only going to read the next book before saying goodbye to Anne Rice so this is where Lestat and I part ways.
Adieu, mon amour.

One of my favorite episodes in The Vampire Chronicles . . .
Like the other ones I most enjoyed (The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned), this one delves into the supernatural history of Rice's world - this time, into the very history of Creation from the perspective of the Devil himself . . . and successfully generates significant sympathy for the Devil . . . definitely worth reading if you enjoy the Vampire Chronicles . . .

70% of the book was Memnoch monologuing. 10% was apt commentary on Catholic guilt. 10% was Anne Rice for the SECOND BOOK just in THIS series focusing on What Would Having Sex with a Functioning Peen with Pretty Girls be like (ma’am could you just get yourself a strap, please). 10% was Lestat wants your period blood something FIERCE (A+, thank you for going there, Lestat being horny was actually a welcome relief). I want to go re-read The Vampire Lestat instead now.
