Such a good book.

I didn't give this a low-rating because of the weird-looking naked kid, like some people, I just didn't get why this book was supposedly so great...I dislike the illustrations and I wasn't overly impressed with the poem.

Awesome story. Regularly challenged because of the teeny-weeny-peeny shown on a couple of the pages. One of the few stories that has a well interpreted movie version. Probably because the author was involved.

I have a calendar that recommended this book to read. I checked out the e-audiobook from my local library. I was not impressed. Maybe the physical book is better.

I'm going to be honest: I remember being fascinated by this book when I was kid because Maurice Sendak drew the protagonist boy's penis.

SORRY.

Apparently I'm not the only one who noticed that, though, because this book was controversial and was banned in many schools for exactly that reason. Anyway, genital depiction aside, this book is lovely. Sendak is so surreal and funny and the illustrations are amazing. The story is weird, but in a good way. Like!

A big favorite of mine to read aloud, this book reads like spoken word poetry. We love to yell "Milk in the batter! Milk in the batter! We bake cake and nothing's the matter!"

It's funny to me how many people commented on the naked thing. I barely noticed, my two boys (4&5) didn't comment at all.
