Bottom line - my kids love the story because Mickey loses all his clothes and that's the type of humour they live for :)
One of those books from childhood that I can pretty much recite without looking at it!
This was also on the banned book list. There is a small amount of nudity in it but that is why it is on the list. I don't know that I would read this to a class but I would keep it available.
An imaginative book, though controversial. The nudity has been censored (colored over with markers) on all the copies of this at the BYU library. Ha!
This book was odd. I don't even know how to describe my reaction to it. The pictures and symbols were sort of disturbing in places. This book has frequented banned book lists and I'm not saying the book should be banned because I'm against censorship, but I can see where the book might concern some people. Wanting the book banned for EVERYONE is obviously what I have a problem with, but I could see why it might be a good idea to leave this one out of your story time if you're a teacher.
adventurous
Mickey is transported to the Night Kitchen, where he sees how the morning cakes are made. This book is strange for several reasons, but I still liked it. Where the Wild Things Are is better in my opinion, but readers may find this just as humorous and whimsical. I could see this being too scary for some readers, since Mickey is literally baked into the cake for a portion of it. An interesting read.
For: readers wanting a dreamscape book.
Possible red flags: frontal little boy nudity; character in peril.
