These novellas are like popcorn. And popcorn are my favourite snack. I think this one was equally well written as the last. Not as many popculture references as in the first but that was fine. Solid story. The only thing that bugs me a bit is that Jade is so harsh when she talks. but that may be a cultural thing.

Mini-Review:

Why? That's the question I ask a lot and it doesn't really get an answer. Usually, that's fine but I don't think I will ever get a satisfactory answer to the many questions I've collected by reading this series.

This book deals with Jade's family and where she grew up. Something is wrong and her father comes to ask for Jade's help. Stuff happens and no one is happy with the results.

I like the GameLit vibe of the series. I like the characters in Jade's life. I still don't understand how a 50+ year old sorceress can be as clueless and immature as Jade. Or why such a person would be attractive to Alek.

The writing is okay but the book was like a teasing appetizer. It was good and you're ready for a tasty main course but there isn't one.

Oh man! This was so good! The world is expanding and it is awesome! I love how diverse this story is in terms of race and sexuality but also in the diverse mix of shifters and other magical entities. There's even a leprechaun! My only wish is that these books were longer and more lead up to the action. Each book kind of feels like a monster of the week episode which isn't a bad thing. They are still amazing urban fantasy stories! I can't wait to read the next book!

This story was really angsty and depressing. I hope that the closing of past history for the protagonist will allow her to move forward. It spent some time forwarding the long arc, but it suggested that the way the book arc went may have damaged the developing relationship but left that bit hanging out there unresolved.

It was, over all, pretty dark. I'm frustrated that there aren't anymore audiobooks for this series so I will have to read the rest.

Emmm... Exactamente igual que el primero.

Corto, conciso y el desarrollo de las relaciones entre personajes te lo cuentan porque, por más que tú lo intentes, no lo ves en ninguno de los diálogos ni interacciones entre ellos.

No sé.

The second book inches up to a weak 4 star, I feel a bit generous giving that. The book feels a bit thin but at least moves away from completely being lightweight. The plot has a nice form and build and are allowed to twist and turn a bit. The persons met fill out a bit (the MC not so much sadly) and the world building takes shape. Feels still more like a couple of chapters in a work in progress than a finished novel tho.

A great follow-up to the first book.
A lot of expansion upon the world building from book 1, as well as a glimpse at where Jade came from - not to mention tantalising hints of a hitherto mystery in her past.

Brilliant.
