Really good! Some stories were better than others but I loved the body horror. This quenched my thirst for gore and good times, and mushrooms of course.

didn’t know I needed mycological terror in my life

…but here we are. A couple of stories didn’t quite hit for me, but overall a strong compendium of stories.

Man, it’s pretty weird reading themed anthologies. You spend hours just reading about one particular thing until you’re sick and tired of that thing. In this case, it was fungi. I read SO MANY stories (and one poem) about fungi. And most of the stories were honestly amazing!!! I wasn’t super into a few of them, but they were mostly ones that came in the final third of the book… so I wonder if I was just fed up with fungal themes by then or what. The Jeff Vandermeer story knocked my socks off, though.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t particularly taken by this anthology. I don’t think the stories are bad or poorly executed, but most of them fell somewhere from “decent” to “meh” for me. John Langan’s “Hyphae” and Daniel Mills’ “Dust from a Dark Flower” were probably the ones that grabbed me most, but overall I felt very underwhelmed.

Not as good as I was expecting, too slow and lost interest; only 1 story caught my attention.
