I'm of two minds about this book.
One: it was one of the most readable books on this Top 100 Novels of the 20th Century that I'm currently making my way through. I didn't read it with any consistency, but whenever I did sit down to read it, I read quickly and voraciously. It didn't feel like a 500+ page novel. It was never dull or boring and I found myself wanting to get on with it.
However, I found myself disliking all of the characters. In the very early chapters, I could relate somewhat to Mrs. Morel, but it didn't last long. I could not understand any of Paul's choices in life and was angry at his treatment of Miriam.
Or maybe I'm just bitter because I've seen what an overbearing mother can do to her son...

I was really into the background and setting of the book. The beginning and the end were great, but the middle did feel a bit long.
The characters felt very real and infuriated me throughout, but I needed to find out what happened.
The writing was also not intimidating or dense, which is great for a classic.

I guess if I look at the bigger picture I could find something aesthetically pleasing about this book. Otherwise while reading every word, every line, every paragraph, every page, every chapter of it.. I was cringing so hard. Absolute horse shit.

I tried reading other books by D.H. Lawrence, but this is the only one that did anything for me.
