The story of Thea Kronborg, who is born in a small town in Colorado with a unique personality and an amazing capacity for music. I enjoyed Cather's descriptions of the town and the people there, but once she went away to seek her fortune I found it less interesting. Willa Cather's descriptions of the West shine; her point that great artists need a vast well of experience to draw upon was perhaps driven home a little too obviously.
