So intimate and beautiful. Baldwin manages to encompass so much about love and the nature of man and woman in under 200 pages

Writing and story so so so beautiful. A book that made me forget I was reading and feel like I knew the characters. This made it even more heartbreaking and I’m still feeling empty a week later.

Wow. Beautifully intimate and shocking even by today's standards.

Oh what a book. What a beautifully written and gut wrenching story. It was brilliant, raw and incredibly sad. I really did need a book that made me “feel” something and this was perfect for that. There were so many emotions that took over me as I read. I didn’t expect to cry but, alas, I did.

Probably made it worse that I had just been in France for the first time, experienced a whole lot and felt that desperate need to escape from it. Much like David. Paris felt claustrophobic and yet at the same time I wanted so much to stay because of the potential of love. Now I’m left with feelings of like, love and loss.

The confusion, the questioning, the fear and love all the same…
Ahhhh what a book. I can’t wait to read it again.

I finished this last night and I’ve felt so moved and genuinely in ore over Baldwins writing. (first book I’ve read of his and won’t be the last)

What a heartbreakingly beautifully written book. I don’t think I’m capable of writing a review that would even do it justice…

I found it to be very similar to the works of Dostoyevsky and the protagonist feeling ‘trapped’ (not only often physically but mentally, too.)

I really liked this book. Considering it was written in 1956, it definitely has its flaws and certain elements that didn’t resonate with me. But overall, I think it’s a meaningful and important read.

In terms of characters, I found some of David’s decisions to be selfish and even childish at times. Still, I appreciated Baldwin’s way of telling the story, it blends sadness, emotional tension, and inner conflict in a very compelling way.

This novel is undeniably a classic. Even if some parts feel dated, it's remarkable for how groundbreaking and courageous it was, especially in portraying a queer love story with such depth and honesty more than 50 years ago. A true milestone in LGBT+ literature.

Me ha parecido interesante y bien contado, pero me ha fallado el sentimiento. No me ha transmitido nada (ni pena ni nostalgia...).
