Vonnegut rated his own books once, and I think he gave this one a C+ as a dimly passing grade. I think there's a lot of fun to be had in it, even if it's a messy and honest look at himself, his flaws, his intentions, and the messy realities of the time and place boiling over in a person. I think it's better than he gave himself credit for, and still a wild ride
It is not laugh-out-loud funny as some have described. At best, I smirked a few times. However, it *is* a good book. I'm sure had I read it during the time period in which it was written, I might might be more impressed with it's subversiveness. But, alas, in 2010, I am not easily moved to shock and awe by naughty language and hand-drawn pictures of genitals. The books overall message is still poignant today. Humans are still at times behave robotically and seem to be driven by some unknown force to commit all kinds of acts of stupidity and fruitlessness and to treat each other like roadkill. That probably won't change for a long time, if ever.

Very weird book. Really uncomfortable with how the author uses the Nword or the many long paragraphs talking about "beavers."
