The Book of Two Ways

Wow! I loved this book!! I listened to the audio recording that was excellent and brought an ancient language to life for me. The story weaves multiple themes together - life, love, death. The book was well researched so I learned a lot and was reminded to be grateful for every breath I take.

I was able to look past the romance because of the integration of academia and the ideas of holding space as a death doula. I would like to revisit this book to capture some of the questions about what is really important in life.

Not my favorite Jodi Picoult book. Too much detail about Egyptology, which took away from the characters and story.

I almost gave up on this book because of all of the technical info, I am glad I didn’t. If I could give it more than 5 stars I would!

Not my favorite Picoult book. Too bogged down with technical language, the main character wasn’t relatable. Almost predictable.

In typical JP fashion, this book is captivating with moving passages throughout. This book in particular was heavy in research. Truthfully 90% went over my head and was lost on me which is why it gets 3 stars. But the story was beautiful. I didn’t love the ending but it was like a crowning moment of the books point which I’m sure other readers will appreciate.

Couldn’t get into it

I really enjoy Jodi Picoult’s books but I had a hard time with this one. I skimmed most of the technical information on science and Egypt, it was too much information that didn’t seem needed for the story.
I also felt that the book jacket description was deceiving because in the end you find out the timeline is different than you were led to believe. That plane crash isn’t what led to her having to make a decision.

4.5⭐️ - I started this book knowing nothing more than it was about a plane crash survivor and alternate time lines. So I was joyfully surprised to find a story that so closely mirrors my own life (minus the plane crash). As a trained anthropologist and death doula my own interests could not be more closely aligned with the main character, Dawn. Add to that a story that explores deep, philosophical life questions; quantum physics, Egyptology, love and loss and death - well, that’s near perfection in my mind. This book is smart, and well-researched, and accurate for a work of fiction - and that is something I deeply appreciate above all else in a story.

Another great read by Jodi Picoult.
