I really didn't like the focal point of this story. Instead of the usual viewpoint of Betsy Devonshire the story was much more the perspective of the newly created characters. I read series' like because I like the main characters and I want to see what's new with them.
I'm hoping this was an 'experiment' and not the new direction or this will probably be my last Crewel World novel.

How does this author keep coming up with fresh, well worked out plots even with 9 previous mysteries? It helps that each book explores a little of a new "world" or hobby, in addition to covering some new facet of needlecrafts. Very readable, very enjoyable.

We were away from our main gang of characters to observe the mystery of possible long lost family and buried treasure. This was a really well written installment with lots of red herrings, twists and turns and I think this was do able by stepping away from the main group. I did miss our regular sleuths but it was a really interesting part of the series!
Also hiding an embroidered map on the inside of a pillow is so genius and imaginative I would love to do something like that for the younger members of my family in the future!
I enjoyed this story, as it did have me guessing the whole time. Not sure what I think of the way that Ferris has changed her writing style as the series has progressed, but it's not terrible. I just miss hearing more about Betsy and her antics in the shop. Though, I suppose focusing on the players in the story keeps the readers from getting bored with Betsy... Anyways it was fun and interesting.
Enjoyed the story though of the details and relationships (how the characters are related to each other) didn't track accurately and was distracting.

I will read anything that has to do with knitting - and this has to do with knitting AND takes place in Minnesota - so it's a no brainer that I would have to eat these up.
I don't often read books that I finish and think - Hu - My grandma could read this. I can't remember a single curse word in any of the books and sex is non-existant. Honestly I find the plots a little lacking - but you have to take murder mysteries with a grain of salt. I mean - How many people can you kill off in a small town in Minnesota and not break from reality? Not very many I think. So I give the author credit for hitting her 10th book and still making me want to read them.
Oh - and I haven't made the free patterns - but I am still pleased to get them!

Still not bored. Cute plots - fun to see how she figures out how to work in stitching each time.
