I honestly enjoyed this book and read it pretty quick.  However, I can't ignore the amount of similarities between this book and aggtm. The plot was interesting, but I can't give it a higher rating if it's basically a ripoff of another book.

Meh. Felt very derivative and the writing was forced. It's so similar, even in cover, to A Good Girls Guide To Murder that you may as well just read that instead

god, this one was disappointing. if you want to read a mediocre dupe of a good girl’s guide to murder, this is it! it’s practically the same thing, just not as a good at all. which is upsetting, because it’s sapphic. and i want all sapphic things to be enjoyable.

i don’t understand why the phrases “my ex-best friend” and “my ex-girlfriend” were said so much. we know who they are - use their names! it made it so clunky.

most of the book i was forcing myself to finish because it just wasn’t enjoyable at all. around the end was somewhat entertaining because things actually started happening.

this is literally just a good girls guide to murder x life is strange but incredibly mediocre

not every story needs a romance, this is one of those instances

it was okay?? i liked the mystery although i’d figured out part of it from the content warnings but pacing was off and there was waaay too much book left after the finale resolution. also the characters made some incredibly stupid decisions like yeah okay you’re teenagers but come ON!! and some of the interpersonal drama felt slotted literally just to advance the plot in a specific direction which i never like.

this book also features a character with either one (or both hands ?? that was unclear) having 6 fingers and obs it’s great to have added this kind of diversity but the way it was done felt off???? the detail was dropped at completely random times where it felt completely out of the blue and it was described in almost exactly the same way every time which not only felt clunky but lowkey tokenistic? kind of like when cishet authors add queer characters to tick the diversity box and keep dropping random reminders that YES THAT CHARACTER IS GAY!!! AND IT’S GREAT!! YAY!! GAY!!!

overall not bad but disappointing and kind of boring in parts

A really exciting book with plenty of fun twists and turns. Two girls are missing. Will they find them again?

Iris was an OK main character. I had a few issues with her at times (like how she withheld information, at times seemed to just not care about people’s feelings as long as she got her information, or how she would go very far to find the truth which can be a good thing but she just got obsessed), but in overall I did like her. I like that she didn’t give up. That despite things stacking against her and things getting more dangerous she wanted to solve the case and figure out what happened not just to Heather (her ex and the newest missing girl) but also Stella (her sister). I loved her dreams and I love that she already is making big strides in making that dream come true.

The mystery was very well written. And there are so many twists and turns that make it a true rollercoaster! Each time you think that you are closer to solving the mystery and then there is a new twist, a new development, something new that is OMG. The author really wrote the whole thing perfectly and I just loved every bit of it. The ending/last part of the book, WOW. That was so good. HOT DIGGITY. It was fantastic. I was on the edge of my seat.

I also liked the various side-characters (well, OK, not always Sammy).

Oh, and I liked seeing more about the various families in the town. And read more about the backstory of our MC and her family. Her mother who was an alcoholic. What happened after Stella disappeared. It gave more insights in everything plus made the characters come to life.

I also liked that there was a focus on romance. Not just with Heather and Iris who had a relationship before everything burned to flames. But also Lea (Iris ex-best friend) and Iris. Sometimes these things don’t exactly fit the story, but the author made me want to read the romance bits as much as the exciting thrilling bits. I was really rooting/shipping. I also love the diversity. Our MC is Pan. Her friends also fall under the LGBT flag. Heather is either Bi/Pan, Lea is Bi. So all in all, that makes me happy as a Bi girl to see more Bi girls in books plus also not seeing the whole it’s just a phase thing. That I hate.

I was really looking forward to the podcast bit, but in the end I just didn’t care for it that much. It was just bland, plus just seemed to rehash things, also I think it would have worked if it was more an integral part of the story, now the book could have done without.

Oh, and for the early parts I just wasn’t a fan of Sammy. Sammy who didn’t care about stake-out gear and would rather walk around with a Pikachu shirt or how she left her headphones when the friends were investigating in someone’s room. Later on she did get better and she had her good points, but maybe they shouldn’t take her out for excursions.

All in all, this was an exciting book that I read in one go. I just had to see who was the murderer, who planned it all, and see if any missing girls would be OK.

I could tell this was a debut (pacing slightly off, main character a little too prickly and dumb at points, some repetitive writing), but the story kept me intrigued for the most part. A little disappointed with the endings, but mysteries have been doing that more lately. A solid read.
