The book was good but the ending felt rushed and there could have been more character development.

I'm not sure what went wrong here. I was up for the premise, the rape/sex thing didn't bother me. I guess I found the heroine a bit of a doormat, and the alpha just too OTT for me.

The central concept of 'secrets from the past coming back to haunt the main characters.' wasn't bad. The plot did feel like it was lurching a bit, from its bizarre beginning to its more thoughtful flashbacks. The dialogue was, at times, eye-watering. Crucially, the central relationship wasn't swoony or dangerous enough to keep powering the story. After the first few sex scenes (specifically, the first, where I think Jones hit it out of the park, but left nothing to build on), they got a bit repetitive. It was like yeah, we get it, they bang a lot. Whatevs.

4.5 stars.

Don't mind me, I'm just over here SOBBING.

Most of this story I was floating around a 3, maybe 3.5 star read and then the last huzzah completely wrecked me. I saw it coming, for the most part, but I didn't expect it to be written in such a way that it would absolutely rip out my heart.
