I didn't need a whole lot of incentive to pick up Ruby Spencer's Whisky Year. Set in Scotland? check. MC chef? check. Roguish and bearded love interest? check. It's a recipe for my heart's success.
Ruby goes to Scotland to get away from it all. She needs inspiration and a reset and, most of all, to write a successful cookbook. Between the beauty of her surroundings and the handsome and burly Brohan randomly showing up to "fix" things, Ruby can't help but fall in love with her temporary living arrangement.
I really liked so much about this book. In a world of genre mash-up after mash-up, it's a beautiful romance. It was a little tell me not show me but outside of that, I enjoyed the read. Ruby is mature and adaptable, the setting is perfection, Brohan is brooding and lovely, and the food! Oh my gosh, I think I drooled half a dozen times. I would adore a companion cookbook.
Thank you to Berkley and Netgalley for the advanced copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.

I didn’t finish this book because I moved and had to turn the book back in. It was okay. I didn’t eat it up and I didn’t fall in love with either characters.
3.75 cute. Felt a little Insta love. A little too much telling and not enough showing from a writing style.

Good, not great. I found myself not really caring about the characters? Setting was wonderful & the premise was hopeful but not great follow-through. Appointment reading by the end.
Such a sweet and swoony romance set in Scotland. Ruby packs up her life in Manhattan and moves to a cozy cottage in a charming small town in Scotland. The town is welcoming and quaint. Ruby is immediately charmed by the town and its quirky residence. Brochan the local handyman is grumpy, Scottish, and hot. Ruby and Brochan have an instant spark that they do not act on immediately. I would not classify this as friends to lovers or enemies to lovers, but as two People meeting one another and having a romantic connection. Not certain if that's a trope or not? I found the setting of the story absolutely delightful, made me want to pack my bags and head to Scotland. Ruby and Brochan were both likable characters and I really loved them together. there were a few things these characters kept from one another that drove me crazy and I never completely understood why? Nikki Massoud did an amazing job with the audiobook narration. Her male Scottish accent voice was perfection. I truly think her narration added another layer to this sweet story. If you're in the mood for an adorable romance with a charming setting, this is the book! And just a heads up there is steam. Not a lot, but it is open door.
