I enjoyed this memoir and I hope that it brings more people to register with Be the Match, which helps I’ll people get matched up with bone marrow donors. Read at the suggestion of my mother.
This was an inspirational book about loss and medical adversity written in an easy-to-read way that featured the setting and spirit of beautiful NYC. It will also make you more inclined to consider donating marrow, blood, and/or organs.
This was probably closer to a 3.5. I really liked it. I have read a handful of Nora Ephron books but I didn't even really realize her sister Delia wrote books as well. This book is a wonderful glimpse into the experiences that go hand-in-hand with aging. It covers death, grief, the surprise of new love, disease, friendship and the magic of confluence. The book was a much-needed dose of hope for me at a time when I've been feeling increasingly defeated and defeatist.
I read the book but would recommend listening to it. Ms. Ephron narrates it, which makes for an even richer experience.
this was a sweet book. i really enjoyed the message through it.
we so frequently think that life ends after our twenties, thirties, forties, so on and on. most people imagine at 70 their life will be set and done. delia ephron reminds us that life is never predictable, and our journeys will always twist.
i loved ephron's voice. she is a strong memoirist, her tone carries her readers steadily and excitedly through the book. at the end, i found myself wanting more.
this book is a beautiful reminder of how we must accept whatever cards life deals us, but that there is a reason for everything. ephron is a strong, fantastic-willed woman, and i'm so happy she survived and graced us all with this book.

Not Nora, but that’s fine. I remember driving on the Merritt Parkway with my daughter and my very young granddaughter and having to pull into a rest stop because all three of us were laughing so hard as we listened to I Feel Bad About Ny Neck. This was not that book. This is a book about reckoning with loss, finding love, celebrating friendship, and somehow, finding the will to live.
Not everything is funny in life, but life is still worth living. Right?
