Poirot was wonderful, though I found Hastings a little insufferable here. He was often too fixated on various women in the story, to his detriment. There is also quite a bit of casual racism/xenophobia, along with the use of racial slurs.
Graphic: Murder
Moderate: Adult/minor relationship, Infidelity, Misogyny, Racial slurs, Racism, Sexism, War
Minor: Incest, Xenophobia, Antisemitism

Shared this audiobook with my son shortly after watching Murder on the Orient Express last fall. (It took us a while to get through, because we mostly listen on the way to school and that's a short commute.)
I love Christie's writing. Lots of twists and turns, but best of all, she's funny. And there are always layers to her clues: how Hastings interprets them, how the reader (who is smarter than Hastings) interprets them, and then the truth (aka, what Poirot knows).

Love an old classic, cozy mystery, but am always a bit shocked when common prejudice, stereotypes and offensive language pops up - one character is reported to have had difficulty removing black face when impersonating a “n-word”. Yikes! Should I just avoid old classics because of these?
Ooof, this was hard for me. I don’t want to give it a low star review, but this wasn’t for me. It took me a long time to get used to the language of the book. It definitely reads like it was written in the 1930’s. There are a lot of characters and it is hard to keep track of them. I had to google a character list to try and make sense of it. Once the murder occurred, it did pick up a little bit. Overall, I found myself skimming the last half of the book just trying to get through it. I definitely missed a lot of details.

Was there truly no other way to end the book, Agatha? For what reason did you choose such a gimmick?
