I love Julian. He deserves the world. Yes, he is tough on the surface, but he clearly cares about the people that matter most to him. His adventures as a spirit put his life into a new perspective, unfortunately at the cost of learning what others thought of him behind his back. He grew into himself just as much as Yadriel did, eventually learning a bittersweet self-acceptance.
One thing that I absolutely enjoyed about the story was the author's method of building up to the climactic reveal throughout the narrative. Pieces of information are placed throughout like breadcrumbs. All of it leads to such a satisfying reveal.
There should be more coming of age stories like this.

Pros:
- Found family
- Ancestral magic system
- Latinx, queer, trans, anxiety, and ADHD rep
Cons:
- it takes place over two days (Insta-love)
- the tragic loss of a family member at the beginning is just skated by, we don't see much grief/impact depicted. It feels like it was only used as a means to further the plot
It's also *very* YA (I'm not taking any points off for that though, it's a YA book).
It's a sweet read and I loved the message. I'll definitely be recommending it to some of the youth I work with.
