I have reread this book many times. I think it is a sweet love story. But it wasn’t until this last time that I realize that this is a retelling of Beauty and the Beast. And maybe that’s why I don’t end up giving it more than three stars. Persephone doesn’t seem like a full well-rounded character who is intensely hurt by Adam’s actions. And they never talk about all of the misunderstandings and miscommunications that they had along the way in their love story.

I LOVED this one, it's a new favorite! I really loved watching their relationship grow and the slow burn. I also really like the Beauty and the Beast parallels.

I was so pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. I typically don’t expect much from the often cookie-cutter romances put out by Deseret Book and Covenant Communications, but this one had depth, nuance and a likable female lead (one whose optimism and grief were balanced in such a way that I was never annoyed by either trait). I also loved the “Beauty and the Beast” and Hades/Persephone aspects of the story. In particular, Sarah M. Eden did an excellent job of making Adam the “Beast” without ever going so far that I lost sympathy for him. His traumas were difficult and very real, and I loved the growth he showed as he grappled with his feelings for Persephone. The writing was straightforward and clean, making this a lovely, breezy read that was just what I needed to get out of my head for a few hours.

The cutest beauty and the beast novel to hit the regency market.

Sweet but not the most exciting or dramatic. The characters felt one-dimensional and there was no tension - it felt rather flat.

review to come.

Very cute
