I spent over a year reading this book. I would read it in small 1-2 page increments and mull over the ideas for the next few days before I continued to read. I absolutely recommend this book to soul searchers and deep thinkers that realize rationalism isn't the only way to find the truth. This book is a true gift to those that are still dreamers and maybe need a little structural life cycle component. It is a gift from O'Donohue to the dreamers and wanderers. He writes with such style and flair mixing prose and poetics in such a sensational way they overlap seamlessly. I can't recommend this mystical menagerie enough. It is beautifully done and will transform your life.

I'll end up going back and reading this book, and quoting this book, over and over again.

This book sat on my shelves for years waiting for me to get into it. Recently I picked it up and it was the right time at last. I love Celtic spirituality and the way it's so interconnected with the natural world, and no one writes about it more beautifully than John O'Donohue.

This isn't a terrible book... I liked it very much - however, I found little Celtic spirituality in it that isn't common knowledge by anyone with even a cursory interest in Celtic heritage. Unlike some other reviewers, I enjoyed the poetic quality and style of the author, as well as the use of quotes by famous poets to further illustrate a specific idea that the author was illuminating. I would have appreciated a more in depth approach to Celtic Spirituality specifically and I kept thinking "here it comes.." Then, there would be a trickle of something general, backed up with examples from other religious theologies. So mostly, it was just fluff with plenty of heavyweight classical interjections to make the work appear more substantial than it really is. I disagree with the reviewer who says this book is more for people with a deep interest in spirituality. I think it would be best enjoyed by those with a blossoming interest, but not by someone who has read extensively on the subject. Worth reading, for sure - just don't expect to learn anything new if you already have read at least one book on spirituality or the Celtic culture. It's a sweet little book and would make a nice gift.

feels like getting to hear a wise and gentle grandparent respond to your big questions, bewilderments, and grapplings with the nature of life. tender and calming and heart opening to read during a time of feeling a little lost. and probably any other time too

I liked his philosophy, it combined all sorts of things, and it was just... simplified. I like the idea of a simple life.
