This sucked.

This was just not my cup of tea.
I keep sorting through New Adult trying to navigate the genre. It's all up and down - edging too close to erotica at times. This one definitely seemed to have less plot and more sex - or at least the plot seemed so transparent and entirely shadowed by the intimate stuff.

Once I started reading ESCAPING REALITY, I couldn’t put it down. In fact, I finished it in one day. It has a lot of twists and turns and I was on the edge of my seat the whole time I was reading this book.

Amy is a twenty four year old woman, who has been on the run for six years under an assumed name. She lost her family to a tragedy and has been afraid someone is after her ever since. My heart went out to Amy, because she has such a sad, empty life. Amy doesn’t know who is after her, so she questions the motives of everyone she meets and is afraid to trust anyone.

Amy has lived in New York and is moving to Denver because she fears whoever is after her, may have found her. On the plane to Denver, Amy is seated next to Liam and she feels an instant attraction to him. Amy is confused because Liam makes her feel and say things she usually doesn’t. She has learned to be closed off and not give too much away, but with Liam, she wants to share all her secrets.

Liam is an architect, traveling to Denver for a meeting, to discuss plans for a building he has been asked to design. I liked everything about Liam he is a sexy, good looking confident billionaire, who radiates control. He has been hurt and gone through pain and is drawn to Amy. Liam seems to understand Amy and is patient with her and doesn’t ask too many questions.

Escaping Reality is well written with an intriguing plot, sizzling hot romance and well developed, believable characters. This book had me questioning everyone’s motives and not trusting anyone Amy meets or knows. I loved everything about this book, except the cliffhanger ending.

What a page-turner!

Fantastic read!

Review to come.

Um, guilty pleasure. With added cliffhanger. Orz.

Honestly? Not much actually happens in the book other than you meet Amy, meet Liam, sparks fly, and all you get is a book about their relationship. Their dysfunctional relationship at that. Liam is unbelievable (billionaire, handsome, super intense). I don't mind this. I do mind that he basically runs over Amy's life (though she lets him, torn though she may be). Amy is... passive. She's really passive. She lets other people dictate her life, but she has a good reason. Supposedly. Not that we ever really find out anything about what she's running away from and why.

Which honestly really bothered me. We get some (vague) background information, but on the front of finding out anything new? Stonewall. It's like this entire book is a set up for the next book, complete with it rounding out with a cliffhanger. A really sudden cliffhanger that made me want to bang my head against the wall.

This book is a not a healthy relationship sort of book. I'm okay with this in my books, but your mileage may vary. The characters aren't all that well developed beyond Amy, who's stuck in this passive role that just makes me shake my head (she gets some autonomy in the last couple of pages, but even that is because of something that results from someone's direct actions).

But it's fairly fast paced and the dribbles of plot we get kept my attention. I just wish there was more to it than Liam being all growly-intense-face and Amy being nervous-wreck-but-wants-him-face. I'll probably pick up the next book because I want to know more about what happened to Amy and all the unsolved mysteries around her, but the book felt like a tease for the most part. 2 stars.

Lisa Renee Jones is such a fantastic writer and I am so glad I have been able to read and review a bunch of her books.

So far every books I have read by this author I have totally loved. Escaping Reality I absolutely love and I just couldn't put it down.

I highly recommend this book.

I'm blown away! Fast-paced suspense / psychological thriller / romance that made me run and get the 2nd book as soon as I finished reading.
