Good, but 3rd act doesn’t land a soaring setup, and not as iconic as Neuromancer. Plot armor and red shirts really lower the tension

Fun setups but none of the 3 storylines really pay off, kinda felt like Gibson just lost interest in the last third & just rushed everything to a shared conclusion that dropped a lot of the most interesting mysteries & left the main characters midway through their arcs.
Bobby's story & especially its thematic focus on the suburban mindset pressing against the mythologies & realities of the futuristic lower class/criminal society that was the focus of the first book is really interesting, even when, as a character, he's almost embarrassing to have as your point of view. The Turner stuff is probably the most even keeled, it starts really strong & but I'm not the biggest fan of the military scifi aesthetic & lost interest as it transitioned into the well trodden surrogate father storyline without much of anything to subvert it. Marlee's story was the most interesting initially, but that also just fizzled out after only two real twists, which was disappointing when I was ready to lock in for another half dozen.
On a broader scale, though, I think it's an interesting expansion of the world that Neuromancer & Burning Chrome set up - the existence of the suburbs and high art society are interesting layers that add a lot - and a lot of the ideas around autonomous AIs & their influence over the net & the art pieces some of them choose to create are really interesting, even though they're at the periphery of the plot for most of the story.

Really disappointing compared to neuromancer! The prose was beautiful but the story did not come easily
This might be my favorite Gibson...it's still his wonderful starts and sort of randomly thrown together ends, but it's a bit more lyrical, and a bit more mystical, than some of his other books.
