made me depressed

I enjoyed this so much a laughed out loud. I loved the messy 20 something's and as a woman exactly the same age as Rachel it hit just close enough to home to make me nostalgic but not close enough to make em uncomfortable.

Enjoyed this, not sad I read it but I wanted it to grip me more. Also, something about reading about queerness from a straight characters perspective irks me and makes me feel like I’m losing it a bit. Queerness was central but still a side character and a beat to keep the story going.
I think this is also a me issue but the story was so story, in that I couldn’t forget that I was reading a story, and wondering what a plot point was contributing to the story. I want to be completely immersed.
I do enjoy how everything came together, and there is a wholeness to the book which is satisfying to read. Also definitely moments where I was thinking about what was happening, but never in a way where I had to sit back and take a break (which I think I look for in a truly fully experienced and enjoyed book).

Woah…. A reflection of a time in the narrators life that was crazy and formative. Was not expecting the incident to be what it was.

Two best friends form a codependent relationship while living with each other in a small town. James a closeted gay and Rachel a straight female just graduating from college. James starts a romance with Rachel’s professor in secret. The professors wife thinks that Rachel is her husband’s mistress and the professor is too humiliated to say he’s actually having an affair with a man. Rachel is then ostracized by the community so she moves to London. Other things go on but that’s the incident in question.
