Audio Review: Wylde (Arizona Vengeance #7) by Sawyer Bennett, Narrated by Teddy Hamilton, CJ Bloom
A smooth operator with an angel's face and a bruised heart. Wylde is all of those things and more. Bennett continues to be as unpredictable as the characters that she writes. One minute, she goes full blast when it comes to naughty and the next she plays the strings of the heart like it's her own personal violin. This time around Bennett gives emotions quite the work out with a little help from her friends. Through the eyes of heartache, Hamilton and Bloom tear down the masquerade and expose Erin and Clarke for the work in progress they are. Friendship, family and what looks a lot like love, makes for a temptation that is not to be missed.

Sawyer Bennett never seizes to provide stories full of genuine emotion guaranteed to take us away and entertain until the happy-ever-after end. Wylde is no exception.
Sawyer Bennett continues her Arizona Vengeance series with this tale of a shy bookshop owner and the NHL playboy who inadvertently walks into her store and falls for the strong-willed and beautiful woman. A few years back Clarke Webber had an unpleasant brush with fame and has no intentions of ever being near the limelight again.
Happy managing her own bookshop, Clarke doesn’t know of Aaron Wylde nor does she find the charming and witty man temping. Because sexy, confident alpha males are also on her no-no list. But the gregarious and well-read man tricks her into two dates that become so much more. While Clarke wrestles with insecurities and anxieties, can this celebrity athlete win her heart?
Bennett unfailingly produces gratifying, emotional romances, but this story gives us bibliophiles a setting during a good part of Clarke and Aaron’s romance around a cozy bookshop where we can imagine the gorgeous and interesting Aaron reading while she works.
Aaron first thaws Clarke’s heart by surprising her with his book knowledge but continues to do so when she reveals her unpleasant past and Aaron not only empathizes but is resolute in showing her he’s the man for her with continual caring, thoughtful and swoony moves.
Bennett has penned a story which not only showcases Aaron and Clarke as a main couple, but also brings back loved characters from past books. She carefully inserts them in a way that helps the main couple along their journey towards happiness while giving fans of the series an update on their favorite characters. Spending time with the Arizona Vengeance is a pleasure, and Bennett has created a group of people I want to hang out with any time she’s got a story to tell.
Wylde is book #7 of the Arizona Vengeance series by Sawyer Bennett. It’s a delightful hockey romance. It’s told from both points of view with a happy ending.

This is one of the more relaxed books that I read in the past couple days but wow Sawyer Bennett can tell a story like no other. I really enjoyed the low drama book for Wylde. I totally predicted something completely different then what I received. I am not mad at all.
Good, with a caveat.
This was basically a weddings book. Four couples from the previous books in this series had weddings, and because the hero, Wylde, took the heroine, Clarke, to each wedding, he shared with her EVERYONE'S story. So a good portion of this book was backstory from the previous seven books.
If you hadn't read the others, this would probably be a welcome thing. But, if you had, like I had, then it would probably seem a little excessive and time consuming to hear, for example, Tacker's backstory told twice, by two different people.

My original review from May 2020:
The beginning of this one made me giggle. I loved how Clarke and Aaron handled each other. Clarke having preconceived ideas about Aaron even though she had no clue he was a professional athlete, ribbing him a bit here and there but in a fun way. Then Aaron swooping in to stun Clarke and leave her scratching her head and more than intrigued by him. It’s obvious from the start these two will be good for one another.
Clarke definitely has some hang-ups when it comes to anyone who is even a tiny bit famous. She can’t be blamed for being apprehensive after what she went through a few years earlier. Aaron is so patient with her, even before he knows her story. He can tell she’s as skittish as a cat and doesn’t want to scare her off. There’s just something about her that fascinates him and makes him want to know more about her. It’s very sweet.
I may have said it before, but sometimes I really think Sawyer Bennett is a Red Wings fan. Being born and bred literally a few miles from Detroit, I am a Wings fan through and through. Just a couple of weeks after they won the cup in 1997 (after a 42 year drought), tragedy struck the team. Now, that’s as close to a spoiler as I’m going to get. And the incident in the book has nothing, really, to do with Wylde’s story so it’s not really a spoiler. (Though I’m sure it will feature prominently in future stories in this series.) What happens to a teammate isn’t the same thing as what happened in 1997, but it still brought all those memories back to me and made me wonder who this author’s team happens to be. It’s obvious she’s a hockey fan, though.
Anyway, this story is a lot of fun. Along with the problems and snafus the couple hits along the way (that’s not the fun part, I promise), there are weddings galore. So it’s a great way for the loyal Vengeance fans to catch up with their favorite couples. On top of that, we get to know some of the rest of the team that has been in the background over the last season. Which, of course, means more stories about the men on this team. Just the little teasers we got sprinkled in this story have me chomping at the bit for more, more, more!
As for Clarke and Aaron, they get their HEA…of course. The story is engaging, funny, heartbreaking, sexy, and joyful. All the things I love in my romance stories.
Update after reading audiobook Feb 2025:
While I was still invested in this story in my re-read, I felt it had a lot of filler I didn't need. But here's the thing...when I initially read it it would have been months between books so I would have maybe needed a bit of a refresher on some of the things going on with other characters. Or, if I was coming at this book as a standalone read it would be helpful. But since I'm listening to these books as a re-read one after the other it felt repetitive. I still found Clarke and Aaron to be a great couple and was glad to be in Clarke's bookstore again.

Fine
This was fine. It didn't reinvent the wheel. I thought the "let's tar all famous men with the do not touch brush cause one did me dirty" shtick was a bit played out but it was just fine.
