I was actually having a pretty OK time reading the book until about two-thirds of the way through the book. It was shaping up to be a pretty decent "girl-ends-up-falling-for-the-city-she's-living-in-and-doesn't-need-a-man" story, in my opinion. I was digging the sparse writing when it came to interpersonal relationships because it seemed to add maturity to the characters. Then, when they go to the Hamptons, and all of it went downhill; I can only suspend my disbelief for so much. Like, you're telling me a poster with a phone number was posted to sign posts and telephone poles IN NEW YORK CITY, and no one's phone was blowing up? Luz kept That One Thing(tm) a secret and they were okay barely a chapter later and no hard feelings? Sparse writing only helps so much when you're supposed to not like a character and think they're a tool, but you barely get to know them. I was so primed to give this 4 stars, and, at this, I'm keeping the book for all of the places I'd love to visit next time I go to NYC. Tbh, Chef's mostly consistent characterization kept me from rating it lower, and I guess the somewhat consistent thread of Ben's goals/dreams, too. In 2 sentences, I'd describe the book as: WE WERE ALL ROOTING FOR YOU. HOW DARE YOU? (Or, summed up in a quote from the book, "I'm mad, y'all.")

I loved the author’s first book, and couldn’t wait to read this one. She definitely captures YA feels, and all the foodies experiences, but I didn’t love Margot’s pining for Zach. It went on waaaaaaaaay to long. I didn’t love the secrets that are rife in this book. It just was a bit too much. This book does make me want to go to New York and try all the food mentioned.

3.5 stars for this sweet, coming of age YA story! This one took me a little while to get into, but in the end I really enjoyed it and found it to be a sweet story! A word of caution: you will get hungry while reading this one!!! So many delicious sounding food dishes! I loved the New York City setting and felt like I was right there with Margot exploring the city.
