Oh dang I really enjoyed this book. I thought the author did a great job with multiple timelines and I felt that it went together really smooth.

What I love the most about this book was the parallel stories that being so many years apart, were deeply connected but not in an obvious way. This made the book and story even more real for me.
The build up and growth of the characters was remarkable, every single detail of their individual stories was necessary and at any point I felt like something was extra.
All the characters are important in this book and Cooke makes sure everyone has their time in the story making the story easy to read and so enjoyable.
I give it 4 starts because the last couple of chapters, the resolution, felt a little rush to me (or maybe I just wanted to keep reading more and more!).
First time reading C. J. Cooke and she has definitely made my top 5 authors, can’t wait to read more from her!

This would be like a 3.5… but goodreads doesn’t do partials so rounding up. I really enjoyed this for what it was. I don’t think that there is much deep thought that goes into understanding it and I would even say it read like a YA novel. Not a bad thing but it was just an easy read.

As far as the timelines go… I actually think I preferred the 1500s timeline over present day. I think the book would have been even stronger as a standalone. I understand why both timelines were necessary though. For the plot!

Overall giving good reads “3” because I think the author did a fantastic job writing it and researching the real life healer - the language in the past brought me right into the story. The setting was well done and I enjoyed how the stories tied together. This makes me want to read more books about witch trials although I was ultimately sad about the ending. I’ll read more from this author again for sure.
