Engaging but fairly predictable, which pulls some of the intrigue out of the story and makes some of the moments feel unnecessary. Still, I appreciated the approach to the story and the blend of historical and modern elements.

C. J. Cooke is one of the only authors that I can tolerate dual timelines from.

I did find this one slow to begin with and found that I initially wasn't as interested in the modern story but that soon changed and I became interested in both.

The fact that both characters were mothers trying to protect their children was a nice touch and it was a good way to link the two stories together.

I liked both of the timelines, but i would have liked them better as 2 separate stories. I liked the past with the witch trial that happened and it was a heartbreaking story, but I wanted to know these characters more and see more of the aftermath. I also found the modern tineline interesting but wanted a bit more horror from it. It was good, but I wish it had pushed things a bit further.
