I loved reading this! (Or well - listening to this). Dickens’ writing style is so pleasant and it was nice to hear the story in its original form.

I haven’t read Dickens since I was assigned Great Expectations in Grade 9, and I’m still not the hugest fan of his prose. That being said, I was long overdue to read this classic, and it’s obviously a quick, easy read.
The thing that struck me most, is what an incredible job they did adapting the story in The Muppet Christmas Carol. A film I was late to, but has become an absolute staple every year at Christmastime.
I enjoyed this enough that I may dip my toe into more Dickens in the new year!

read in other version

This has been at the bottom of my to read list and since it is Christmas season, I thought I give it a try. This was my first time reading this classic and I didn’t get the hype.

My reading of this novel is heavily colored by having seen the 1951 movie adaptation starring Alistair Sim about 15 times. As with most cases where both the movie and the book are good, some things match word for word and the differences are interesting.

Despite Dickens' periodic wordiness, it's a really fast read (I nearly finished it in the course of one day's commute to and from work on the bus). One thing I find interesting is that there's a certain evolution of Scrooge throughout the story that Dickens is able to make more gradual and continuous through prose than even an actor as fine as Sim can pull off on the big screen.

A Christmas Classic. Even after all these years, it’s still a really enjoyable book that gave birth to the greatest Christmas movie of all time, The Muppet Christmas Carol. But the book was short and just a fun read for Christmas time, there isn’t anything negative to say

Listening to Jim Dale read this was not strange at all.
emotional informative tense slow-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: No
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

I found it slow and uninspiring, couldnt relate to anyone and therefore didnt care.

I read or watch A Christmas Carol every single year, and this audio version is phenomenal! Tim Curry was the wisest choice for narrator.

Great to read this every year. Favorite story- it has everything.
