A Christmas Carol [Illustrated]: Being a Ghost Story of Christmas
Charles Dickens
“Man.” Said the Ghost. “If man you be in heart, not adamant, forbear that wicked cant until you have discovered what the surplus is and where it is. Will you decide what men shall live, what men shall die? It may be that in the sight of heaven you are more worthless and less fit to live than millions like this poor man’s child. Oh god, to hear the insect on the leaf pronouncing on the too much life among his hungry brothers in the dust.”
This was one of the first Charles Dickens I ever read and will always remain one of my absolute favourites. It is such a heartwarming story and a beautiful reminder of what Christmas represents. It's the kind of book you can read as a holiday tradition every year or reread whenever you need a little pick me up after a particularly bad week. Everybody should read it at least once and I do highly recommend it.
First time reading "A Christmas Carol" after having seen various TV/film versions. It was pretty good, though not my favorite Dickens novel...especially the Second Spirit, that section lagged a bit.

An absolute classic! While I knew the overall structure of the story, I think this is the first time I actually read it. It was moving and effective, a beautiful way to point out how your behavior is seen by and affects those around you. A good read, and quick as well.
Try as I might, I just couldn't read this without hearing Gonzo's voice as the narrator, nor see Bob Cratchit as anyone but Kermit the frog. I suppose there are worse things, right?
