my god. another insanely good book. I read this in two sittings pretty much. never had anything captured the way teenage young love and obsession and confusion of feelings quite like this. many moments of feeling like the words had been stolen right out of my mouth, I couldn't have written it yet it describes them perfectly. and Theo oh Theo I see you. I relate so much to both Fay and Nell and thank you for making me feel less insane for googling people. absolutely loved this. incredible experience.

a little too seen. being gay 15 and annoying really is a universal experience. made me think about my best friend i had a crush on then got over then i fell out with but we changed each other for better or worse. this ones going to stick with me for a while i think.

idlewild makes for an exceptional debut, but for me there's an even higher ceiling that it could––but frustratingly, doesn't quite––hit. that it could is a marvel enough on its own, though

Though I wasn't a teen in the the time this story was set, man was it so relatable to my high school experience as a person who is queer and was surrounded by queers. I need people to talk about this book to!!

Read for book club. Need to sit with this one more but many of the parts flew by quickly. Especially the last third I read in basically 2 days

DNFing at 61% through. i really tried with this — and will preface that the representation and interesting range of queer perspectives and dilemmas can’t be ignored! i really do think this could be impactful for younger readers struggling with sexual identity….

however! read a bit too YA for my taste, i know the high school cringe and second hand embarrassment was highly intentional but this just didn’t do it for me. maybe because i was not (and will never be, sorry) a “theater kid” that some of this went over my head and overall just didn’t feel super connected to anyone, despite some crossover in very relatable identity struggles. had its moments, but simply not interested in the remaining 39%.
