The way Sylvia understands anxiety and PTSD is so comforting. She is able to be empathetic and see nuances between her experiences and others. It is oftentimes something overlooked or not well explained, but she is very intuitive with how the war impacted people's lives. The slow revealing of her and Gabe's backstories is well done. I like the magic system. It is simple and every day, not high fantasy, and I kind of love that about it.
really bad. i was only reading this cause it had medici in the title... and i mean i did read the first one and tell myself to not read another one of these... but.
the "magic" is so badly fleshed out, the world building so meager like, why are they going where and the places feel like random locations i should look up to get through... the characters are flatter than my a** and the romance thing is cringe. badly. also. really badly. and the whole mystery had more holes then i like my cheese with...
