I almost gave it a 2 -- haha. At first I thought the writing was kind of bad, but I don't think that's necessarily true. The writing is fine, it's the plot I couldn't jump on board with. It was light and had sweet moments sprinkled in...and, still, I was bored. It didn't help that I wasn't intersted in the romance (in fact, it seemed that it was introduced a little too late). I enjoyed the Christmassy descriptions of Edinburgh, though! Idk, maybe it's a 2.75.
Edit: I thought about it a little longer, and it's actually more of a 2 for me. I just didn't like the characters all that much. And the more I think about the story, the more I'm annoyed by it. Well!

3.5. Cute read. I really wish the author developed Carmen a bit more outside of the relationship with her nieces/nephew. There was definitely more room for her to have a proper resolution with Sofia, and to realize that her comparing herself to her older sister (and essentially changing the whole course of her life because of it) was needless.

Additionally, since Oke was her romantic interest at the end, I feel like Cogan didn't give enough time for that to develop given how much time was spent on Carmen and Blair. Also, didn't understand the subplot given to Mr. McCredie and his true heritage. Don't think it added anything to the story.

Though not my normal jam, I quite enjoyed this holiday tale set at a bookshop in Scotland…where I apparently want to live now. There was a decent balance of saccharine and sass in this book. It was the perfect cozy story with which to start December. I might even read the sequel!

Another underwhelming story by Jenny Colgan. I inadvertently picked another book by Colgan, after being frustrated by Christmas on the Island, only because I wanted a Christmas read and didn’t pay attention to the author. I thought the storyline had promise because I loved reading The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer and hoped for some bookshop “magic” at Christmas time. Alas, little to nothing of consequence happens and only a few hesitant attempts at emotion in the entire book. Bah humbug.
