Honestly? I had a pretty good time. I went in with quite low expectations and they were pleasantly surpassed. TL;DR If your brain and other content you’re consuming is heavy, busy, requiring focus; this will not be. Going in not expecting to get too deep or invested makes for a cozy-lite read with satisfying character ends. A background movie type of book.
Minor spoilers- I very much enjoyed the main character’s growth journey, the pacing felt natural and well done. It’s possible part of that is due to how spread out I read this. She reflects towards the end “Before, I would have done…” and I thought yes! you would have, but you didn’t cuz growth! So that was fun.
If you’re looking for your holiday romance fill? This isn’t it, but it is part of the story. Honestly it was like tertiary to the other plots I was enjoying.
The occasional flip to other perspectives initially caught me off guard but I came to appreciate it. I was nice for my nosiness without erasing all unknowns like a dual/multi pov sometimes does.
Yes there were aspects I didn’t love. Some characterization that felt disconnected from side players. The occasional aspect that felt random and unnecessary. But overall, it was different than a lot I’ve read recently and that was refreshing.
