Carmen was just fired from her retail job after the store shuts down due to lack of business. She’s forced to move in with her sister, whom she is extremely jealous of, since her sister found her a new job. When she arrives, Carmen learns that it is her responsibility to make a dusty, dingy, failing bookshop turn a profit, or the old owner, who lives above the bookshop, will loose his family home and have nothing left.
I definitely appreciate that saving the bookshop and Carmen’s contentious relationship with her sister are the focus of the book, especially in the first half. There is a love triangle, which normally would bother me, but Colgan kept it feeling fresh and interesting and managed to pull a fast one on me, so I can forgive the use of a generally overused trope.
All in all, I really enjoyed this book. The setting, Edinburgh in the snow, is amazing, and Colgan really transports you there. It definitely felt Christmasy, and is perfect to put you in the holiday spirit.

This was everything I wanted in a cozy Christmas story: books, humor, family drama, and a bit of a love story. The audio version is great. Highly recommended!
