I honestly wanted to quit this book multiple times in the beginning but again… I am way too stubborn lol. However, about halfway through there was a shift and I was loving what was happening

I really wanted to love this book and there were a few aspects of it that I did enjoy. I loved the scenes in the bookshop and how she brought that back to life. I loved Mr McCredie (he was the only character I actually enjoyed and some of the other side characters were not too bad). I did also like the eventual dynamic of Carmen with her nieces and nephews and how she grew closer to them.
As much as there were elements
that had the making of a really lovely story the majority of the characters were insufferable. They were constantly whiny and did not communicate and they just got on my nerves. At first I thought maybe there would be some character development and they would become less annoying however there would be multiple misunderstandings and characters acting so immature. It just took away from the story.
I questioned numerous times if I wanted to complete the book but then ultimately did want to see what happened to the bookshop. So I just powered through the not so great parts which were scattered regularly throughout the book.
It did also make me want to visit Edinburgh which was another positive.
While there are cute aspects to the story there has to be other better cozy Christmas books out there.
